LOGOVISUAL THINKING
Management work increasingly involves knowledge work.
Knowledge work is needed especially when there is
a complex task with high levels of uncertainty |
diversity of interests and ambiguity about objectives |
incompleteness of accessible information |
Knowledge workers need to add value and context to information, making it more intelligible and shareable, and useful for making decisions.
The object is to reduce complexity while increasing meaning. This is done by
systematic aggregation - which reduces the amount to deal with |
visible organisation - which enables people to see what they are thinking |
structuring features and options - which gives a direct insight into optimum patterns |
Knowledge workers need appropiate tools. These must be compatible with the inherent senses of meaning that people have, rather than putting it into the hands of any automated system.
The senses of meaning stem from the basic functions of thought, feeling and sensation-movement.
To make meaning effectively - that is, to reduce complexity without losing what is significant - knowledge workers need to engage as much of their brains as possible. They need to know, feel and move knowledge.
LVT is designed as a suite of tools and structure of process to support knowledge work
It can used by individuals, small groups and large groups.
It can be implemented using simple physical tools or software. The software includes applications for individual laptop, projection in a group and web-based shareware.
LVT is a GENERIC METHOD for dealing with ORGANIZED COMPLEXITY.
