LVT - THE GENERIC METHOD
There are 3 levels of knowledge work
Identifying 'molecules of meaning' - MMs - that are relevant to the task and can shared by all the people involved as a common language UNITS OF MEANING |
Organizing the MMs into chunks of meta-meaning - new levels of MM - that represent key vectors of concern
CHUNKS OF MEANING |
Structuring the new MMs into patterns that emnody the inter-relations of the intentions of those involved PATTERNS OF MEANING |
There are 5 stages that structure the process into a series of manageable steps
FOCUS converging on the present moment of concern - the particular complex of sources of information, issues, policies and needs |
GATHER gathering together and agreeing a comprehensive set of separate MMs that are understood by everyone involved as relevant to the task and shareable across boundaries of interests |
ORGANIZE organising the MMs into manageable aggregations with specific implications for deciding how to act and eliciting their significance as 'organising ideas' |
INTEGRATE configuring the aggregations into a structure exhibiting their combined interplay in optimum patterns |
REALIZE encapsulating the results in a synthesis that can unfold into communications with related groups and sets of intentions translatable into action plans |
LVT is complementary to IT. It balances IT by rooting itself in the human capacity to connect with meaning rather than with mere data and also to make meaning. There are several key features of the method that exhibit its basis in making meaning.
